I present

A room that answers back.

Word clouds, live polls and Q&A that run on the phones already in the room. Free, nothing for the audience to install, no ads, and nothing to put on the venue's laptop but a browser tab.

Three things you could make this week

Open with a word cloud

"What brought you here?" The words grow on the screen as the room types. Thirty seconds, and strangers are grinning at each other's answers.

Ask the hard question

A live poll in the middle of the talk. The bars move while people are still voting, and the murmur does the rest.

A QR code that opens your tools, your slides or your sign-up. The hallway does the sharing for you.

One talk's afternoon

This one is a talk about a river cleanup. Yours might be a staff training, a sermon, a lecture, a board meeting. Same room, different slides.

  1. 2:00 pm

    The room settles

Jo is on at a regional nonprofit conference with a talk called "What a river taught us about volunteers." Slide one is a question, not a title: "What brought you here?" A short link, a QR code, and the screen fills. COFFEE. BURNOUT. MY BOARD MADE ME. RIVER. Everyone laughs at the same one, and now it is a room.

Made with Engage, a word cloud.

  2. 2:12 pm

    The hard question

"How many of your volunteers come back a second time?" A poll, four buckets. The bars move while people are still voting, and the "under a quarter" bar wins by a landslide. Nobody has to admit it out loud; the chart did.

Made with Engage, a live poll.

  3. 2:20 pm

    The river bit

Then the story: one link for the date, a task chooser with two kayak seats and one truck, a word cloud on a tailgate at eight in the morning, and twenty-two yeses for next month. The slides are mostly photos of people eating sandwiches on rocks.

The crew's own week is on the I organize page.

  4. 2:35 pm

    Questions, including the shy ones

Q&A on phones instead of a microphone being walked across the room. The questions pile up on the screen, and the best one comes from the person in the back row who would never have put a hand up.

    Made with Engage, Q&A.

  5. 2:48 pm

    The last slide

One QR code: the tools, free, nothing to install, and the page you are reading now. The hallway afterwards is twenty people scanning it off each other's phones.

Made with the QR code generator in Tools.
